For the Mission of the Church

Ever-living God, whose will it is that all should come to You through Your Son Jesus Christ: Inspire our witness to Him, that all may know the power of His forgiveness and the hope of His resurrection; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Inspiring Scriptures

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8

For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6

Link to info about Africa's Children

A great booklet of info about Africa's children. Though there is not anything specifically about Tanzania, it still offers valuable information about issues children face in Africa. There is a nice prayer on page 33.

The Hope of the Lord

Psalm 90 (91)

He that dwelleth in the help of the Most High shall abide in the shelter of the God of heaven. He shall say unto the Lord: `Thou art my helper and my refuge. He is my God, and I will hope in Him.' For He shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunters and from every troubling word. With His shoulders will He overshadow thee, and under His wings shalt thou have hope. With a shield will His truth encompass thee; thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day, nor for the thing that walketh in darkness, nor for the mishap and demon of noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, by unto thee shall it not come nigh. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, and thou shalt see the reward of sinners. For Thou, O Lord, art my hope. Thou madest the Most High thy refuge; no evils shall come nigh thee, and no scourge shall draw nigh unto thy dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. On their hands shall they bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Upon the asp and basilisk shalt thou tread, and thou shalt trample upon the lion and dragon. `For he hath set his hope on Me, and I will deliver him; I will shelter him because he hath known My name. He shall cry unto Me, and I will hearken unto him. I am with him in affliction, and I will rescue him and glorify him. With length of days will I satisfy him, and I will show him My salvation.'

Clean vessels

Psalm 50 (51)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of Thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know mine iniquity, and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee only have I sinned and done this evil before Thee, that Thou mightest be justified in Thy words, and prevail when Thou art judged. For behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother bear me. For behold, Thou hast loved truth; the hidden and secret things of Thy wisdom hast Thou made manifest unto me.

Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be made clean; Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt make me to hear joy and gladness; the bones that be humbled, they shall rejoice. Turn Thy face away from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation and with Thy governing Spirit establish me. I shall teach transgressors Thy ways, and the ungodly shall turn back unto Thee. Deliver me from guilt of bloodshed, O God, Thou God of my salvation; my tongue shall rejoice in Thy righteousness.

O Lord, Thou shalt open my lips, and my mouth shall declare Thy praise. For if Thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would have given it; with whole-burnt offerings Thou shalt not be pleased. A sacrifice unto God is a broken spirit; a heart that is broken and humbled God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Thy good pleasure unto Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built up. Then shalt Thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with oblation and whole-burnt offerings. Then shall they offer bullocks upon Thine altar.

We are God's instruments!

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he has made for you - from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. 1 Peter 2:9-10 The Msg

Kickoff Meeting

There were nine of us, some experienced, some newbies, but all excited about this opportunity to go to Africa on a mission trip. We met in the basement of Glenn Park church in Wichita, KS. The team gathered to discuss our team goals. We finally decided that we would show some video teachings targeted to pastors. We will show the videos, then break into small groups to discuss and apply what we learned. Some of the team members will also plan on ministering to the children of the pastors by providing a program for them as well.

We received a notebook chock full of information that we took home to digest later. The missionary we are going to help, Steve McFarland, was present and he shared with us some of his thoughts. He is currently on furlough and back in the States. A married couple (Thane & Charlotte) are planning to join him next spring full time and they also mentored the group.

Our next team meeting is scheduled for January 3rd. In the meantime, we will be writing our support letters, applying for passports, talking to our doctors about immunizations and anti-malarial medications, etc. The adventure begins!

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

As we left that cold rainy night to go to our respective homes, I'm sure our emotions were varied: excited, nervous, thrilled, and anticipatory. May God bless us in the next few months as He prepares our hearts, minds, souls, and spirits to serve Him and the Tanzanians. May His Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Psalm 119:105
