Kickoff Meeting

There were nine of us, some experienced, some newbies, but all excited about this opportunity to go to Africa on a mission trip. We met in the basement of Glenn Park church in Wichita, KS. The team gathered to discuss our team goals. We finally decided that we would show some video teachings targeted to pastors. We will show the videos, then break into small groups to discuss and apply what we learned. Some of the team members will also plan on ministering to the children of the pastors by providing a program for them as well.

We received a notebook chock full of information that we took home to digest later. The missionary we are going to help, Steve McFarland, was present and he shared with us some of his thoughts. He is currently on furlough and back in the States. A married couple (Thane & Charlotte) are planning to join him next spring full time and they also mentored the group.

Our next team meeting is scheduled for January 3rd. In the meantime, we will be writing our support letters, applying for passports, talking to our doctors about immunizations and anti-malarial medications, etc. The adventure begins!

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

As we left that cold rainy night to go to our respective homes, I'm sure our emotions were varied: excited, nervous, thrilled, and anticipatory. May God bless us in the next few months as He prepares our hearts, minds, souls, and spirits to serve Him and the Tanzanians. May His Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Psalm 119:105
